Leading the Waveguide Technology Revolution

Envisics’ next generation Holographic Waveguide Technology is currently a single-plane, wide field of view head-up display enabling Augmented-reality. It compensates the windshield distortion with an ultra-thin optical element and mitigates glare and straylight with Envisics’ fully customised flat countermeasure. Its ultra-compact slimline packaging delivers a commoditised hardware platform across vehicle lines, and because the solution utilises Envisics’ existing Automotive qualified holographic devices, it accelerates the time to market. Our next generation waveguide technology addresses many of the vehicle integration challenges facing the world’s automakers, particularly in relation to packaging and product complexity.

Delivering world-class AR HUD solutions

Working with automakers and tier-one automotive suppliers, our technology is being progressively integrated into the next generation of automotive HUDs. Dual image planes give greater depth and three-lane breadth. With incredible image quality delivering leading standards of resolution, brightness, and saturation, Envisics is working with the world’s automakers to deliver next-generation AR HUD capabilities.

Evolution of Envisics’ HUD solutions

Today, Envisics is focused on the development of two core technology generations. Prior to these platforms, we delivered our first-generation technology to Jaguar Land Rover and was deployed in over 150,000 units.

Our second-generation technology will be delivered this year and offered first in the all-electric Cadillac LYRIQ-V series. Our second-generation HUD has a dual image system with a virtual image cluster and AR image. Current systems take up a considerable amount of space under the dashboard of a vehicle, typically with a volume of 15-18 liters.

A further evolution of the second-generation platform utilizes waveguide technology to deliver several key features for automakers and their customers:

A slim and compact design in a package of less than six liters in volume

Flat-dash glare mitigation countermeasures either placed on top or combined with the corrective optical element

Fixed single image plane delivered through a 10° x 5° field of view enabling augmented reality

Commoditized hardware platform with one part number across multiple vehicle lines

Windshield correction through Envisics’ unique thin optical element compensates for windshield distortion and reduces development costs

Multiple lane coverage through a wider field of view
